Well! That’s a turn-up for the books. A journalist who interviews you properly and then quotes you accurately! My sincere thanks to the brilliant Daniel Lavelle, who called me last week. He interviewed me about Millennials (which he sees as being aged roughly between 22 and 38), Gen Z (aged between 39 and 52) and Gen Alpha (under 22). And, by the way, NO ONE agrees on the age groups for each of these generations; check on Google and prepare to go insane.
I’m very grateful to Danny. He gave me a chance to say what I believe, and to share my take on generational diversity and interaction, which are both sweet spots for me in the world of work. He listened carefully and positioned my view with clarity and precision. Thanks Danny; that really means a lot to me!
And I’m honoured and delighted to have had the opportunity to open up the discussion about the fact that labeling is only useful if we are able to use that in a context for understanding more about people at different stages of their life cycle. Bluntly, when we are younger, we have fewer experiences and knowledge, and we have lower emotional intelligence. We also – usually – have higher levels of energy, and enthusiasm and a much more open and growth mindset. As we age, our bodies may become stiffer and less flexible, but our brains have “plasticity” and go on developing throughout our lives. We have lots of experience, knowledge, and skill. But we may be moving towards more of a closed or fixed mindset. All generations need each other. All matter. And everyone, no matter what their age or stage of life, has lessons they can learn, and the value they can share.
Thanks again, Danny, for opening up the door on this 😊
